BIO
STEVE BARKHIMER
is currently based in Boston as an actor, musician, director and instructor.
For a resume of theatrical activity, click the Acting tab.
He
has played the
singer/songwriter circuit in such venues as the
legendary Club Passim and the
Kendall Square Café. He has written music for
over 25 years, from folk to
jazz to theatrical settings, from New York to New
Mexico to California.
Time Was is his first release of all-original
compositions. Imagine the
Bhagavad Gita, the Tao Te Ching, the Gospels,
urban angst, bucolic bliss, and
suburban seething all put in a blender, and
served up with (amazingly) simple
honesty, wry wit and deep feeling. Fellow
songwriter Rob Siegel has said
that the lyrics seem "to be written with surgical
precision."
The collection
also represents an homage to the off-center
creations of early Randy Newman,
the directness and intimacy of early James
Taylor, the playful orchestration
of Harry Nilsson, and the pop sensibilities of
Shawn Colvin and Dar Williams.
The CD release party was held at Club
Passim in Cambridge, Mass.
The CD Time Was is currently available at
www.cdfreedom.com and
www.cdbaby.com.
